ARTISTIC STATEMENTDesigning, painting and sculpturing are all proper designations to describe my artwork in glass. Self-expression is my priority whatever are the limitations of the medium. Being a glass artist for more than twenty years, I am fascinated by this medium due to its relation with light that contributes to bring life to my artwork. In that perspective, exploring new techniques, combining new materials, helps me to achieve original works. I realized many large pieces combining hot and cold glass techniques. Those artworks were widely exhibited. To suit the gallery needs, I designed them with their own lighting system. You can find my glasswork in many public buildings and, more recently, at the National Liberty Museum, in Philadelphia. This museum owns thirteen of my stained glass panels, in a room designed for them. These works are figurative, combine painting and etching on glass and represent Heroes of Liberty, from the Bible. Working on this project was very inspiring to me, especially because it fulfills two aspects I like to find in my art, the human figure and the spirituality. This commission was realized with my wife Vénita's collaboration, a very talented colorist with an angelic patience required to assemble thousands of painted and etched glass pieces. Within five years , I developped a group of works of art under the mandala theme, inspired by tibetan mandalas, tools of reflexion that bring us to the center of things. Using elements of our modern life, I illustrate in them my interpretation of that turmoil that is our life; but also bring to the viewer a sample of peace and serenity. |
